Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd)
The nickel–cadmium battery is a type of rechargeable battery using nickel oxide hydroxide and metallic cadmium as electrodes. The abbreviation NiCd is derived from the chemical symbols of nickel and cadmium. NiCd batteries have a longer shelf life of around 10 years. The NiCd batteries sold on this site are High Temperature NiCds batteries with outstanding charge/discharge characteristics at both room temperature and high temperature up to 70°C (158°F).

Red
Red letters are required for New York City and Chicago approved exit signs.

New York City Approved
New York City has very specific codes regarding emergency lighting and signage. In short New York City approved exit signs must be Red 8 inch tall letters with a 1 inch stroke (line thickness) as opposed to 6 inch tall with a 3/4 inch stroke in typical exit signs.

Recessed mounted exit signs or emergency lights offer a low-profile installation by hiding the housing, which includes the electrical components of the exit sign in the ceiling.
Edge-lit
An edge-lit exit sign or an edge-lit stairs sign is a type of sign that uses LEDs to illuminate a clear acrylic panel with the word EXIT or STAIRS printed on it. The LEDs shine on the edges of the panel, making the word and the arrows (if any) stand out. The rest of the panel appears transparent or mirrored, giving a sleek and modern look to the sign. Edge-lit signs are often used in places where aesthetics are important, such as hotels, restaurants, or offices. Edge-lit signs are also energy-efficient, durable, and easy to install and maintain.
Self-Testing
This feature may be added to many exit sign and emergency light fixtures, the SDT feature prolongs battery life, and reduced man hours required OSHA tests. Self testing diagnostic automatically executes a 15 minute test every 30 days and runs a 90 minutes test once per year. The major reasons batteries typically fail is because they remain dormant for long periods of time. With the SDT feature automatically simulates a full discharge and full recharge to keep the batteries in peak performance. If any problems arise during this testing process it will report them through the user interface. This benefit drastically reduces man hours required by OSHA to manually perform the tests.

Surface/Wall Mount
Exit signs & emergency lights that are surface mountable are typically one sided and have a back plate that can be connected directly to a wall or flat surface.

AC Only
AC only exit signs do not include a battery backup or charging circuitry and are for installation and use only where emergency power is supplied from a remote or secondary AC power supply.
Dual Circuit
Dual circuit exit signs. These unit allows the fixture to have dual power feeds. The idea behind this is so that when on normal power, the fixture is fed from a switch leg and can be turned off by the occupant. The PTS relay coil is fed by unswitched normal power. The normal power from the switch leg is connected to the normally open contacts on the PTS relay.
