Federally approved high temperature 4.8 Volt exit sign and emergency lighting NiCd batteries. A 4.8 Volt NiCd has four AA, AAA, C, Sub-C, D or F cells in a battery pack that can come in a variety of configurations. Most common are cube, row and stick configurations.

The nickel–cadmium battery is a type of rechargeable battery using nickel oxide hydroxide and metallic cadmium as electrodes. Red letters are required for New York City and Chicago approved exit signs.

Green letters are typically used in theater exit signs.

A damp location is an interior location normally subject to dampness or condensation, or an exterior location protected from weather and not subject to saturation with water. Damp locations include over bathtubs, indoor pools, covered porches, and like locations.

An edge-lit exit sign or an edge-lit stairs sign is a type of sign that uses LEDs to illuminate a clear acrylic panel with the word EXIT or STAIRS printed on it. The LEDs shine on the edges of the panel, making the word and the arrows (if any) stand out. The rest of the panel appears transparent or mirrored, giving a sleek and modern look to the sign. With the SDT feature automatically simulates a full discharge and full recharge to keep the batteries in peak performance. If any problems arise during this testing process it will report them through the user interface. This benefit drastically reduces man hours required by OSHA to manually perform the tests.

Light emitting diode or LED exit signs & emergency lights have proven to be successful in the reducing electricity consumption by up to 85%. LED exit signs can save money and power while still emitting considerable amounts of light.
